How to Ship 3 Sports Cards with eBay Standard Envelope
If you sell low-end sports cards on eBay, shipping costs can quickly eat into your margins. One of the best ways to keep those costs down is eBay Standard Envelope (ESE).
Even better, you don’t have to limit yourself to shipping one card at a time.
This photo walkthrough shows how we pack three sports cards in one eBay Standard Envelope. The final postage depends on the sealed envelope’s weight, and the whole shipment must meet eBay’s eligibility and packing rules.

What You Need to Ship 3 Sports Cards ESE
The setup is simple and inexpensive:
- #10 envelope
- 3 penny sleeves
- Card Saver
- Team bag
- eBay Standard Envelope shipping label
You don’t need a bubble mailer, cardboard sandwich, or expensive packaging for every low-dollar order.
The goal is to keep the cards protected while keeping the envelope light, thin, and flexible enough for the USPS sorting machines. We’ve sent thousands of these with little to no issue, and if there is an issue, eligible shipments have ESE shipping protection, subject to its terms.

Step 1: Penny Sleeve Each Card
Start by placing each of the three cards in its own penny sleeve.
Don’t stack raw cards directly against each other. Penny sleeves provide an inexpensive first layer of protection against surface scratches and edge wear.
A plain envelope with ordinary postage. Usually no tracking.
A specific service for eligible orders, with limited tracking and shipping protection under its terms.
Use suitable package shipping when the order is too thick, rigid, valuable or otherwise ineligible for envelope service.
Step 2: Put All 3 Cards in a Card Saver
Next, carefully insert the three penny-sleeved cards into a single Card Saver.
For inexpensive cards, we’ve found this gives the shipment enough structure and protection without making the envelope unnecessarily thick or heavy.
Make sure the cards are fully inserted and aren’t sticking out of the Card Saver.
Step 3: Seal the Card Saver in a Team Bag
Place the entire Card Saver inside a team bag and seal it.
This step is important for two reasons.
First, the team bag provides another layer of protection against moisture and the elements.
Second, it keeps the cards from sliding out of the Card Saver while they’re moving through the mail system.
For the few cents a team bag costs, it’s an easy addition to the shipping process.
Step 4: Put It in a #10 Envelope
Slide the protected Card Saver into a standard #10 envelope.
Before sealing it, make sure everything sits relatively flat inside the envelope. You don’t want a large bulge or a rigid package that could create problems during USPS processing.
Seal the envelope normally.
Step 5: Attach Your eBay Standard Envelope Label
Purchase your eBay Standard Envelope label through eBay and attach it to the envelope.

Weigh the finished, sealed envelope before buying the label. This setup may fit the 1-ounce tier, but card stock and supplies vary. Check thickness and flexibility too; a weight tier alone does not establish eligibility.
An inexpensive digital shipping scale is one of the best investments you can make if you’re regularly selling cards on eBay.
Adding cards does not automatically put the order in the next postage tier. Recheck the complete package whenever the card count or supplies change. Use the Standard Envelope guide for value and packing limits.
Bonus Tip: Put the Label Over the Envelope Flap
This goes against what many of us were taught when addressing envelopes in school, but we like to put our thermal shipping label on the same side as the envelope opening.
Why?
The adhesive from the shipping label provides another layer of security over the flap, helping keep the envelope sealed during transit.
If you’re printing your labels on normal paper instead of using a thermal printer, you can accomplish the same thing by securely taping the printed label over the flap.
Just make sure the barcode and shipping information remain completely visible.
Why 3 Card Orders Are So Valuable
For low-end card sellers, the three-card order is something to celebrate.
Imagine selling three $2 cards individually. You’re paying for postage three times!
If three different buyers purchase them, you’re potentially packaging and shipping three separate envelopes.
If the three $2 cards are purchased in one order and the shipment qualifies, you may need only one label and one fixed order fee. For example, three $0.82 labels and three $0.30 order fees total $3.36, compared with $1.12 for one label and one fee: a $2.24 difference before other costs. These are illustrative amounts; use the current postage and applicable order fee.
That reduces your:

When you’re dealing in $1, $2, $3, and $5 cards, those savings add up quickly.
How to Get More Multi-Card Orders on eBay
