Cheap cards become worth selling at all.
A $2 common is not worth a listing of its own. As one variation among two hundred it sells with no extra effort, and every sale lands on the same listing, so the sold count and the search placement compound instead of scattering across two hundred dead URLs.
Listing 200 commons individually costs 200 listings' worth of work. A variation listing holds them all.

The classic mistake is flat pricing. Say "any card $2" and the buyer who knows the checklist takes every $8 card at $2 and leaves the rest. Each variation gets its own price from its own sold comps, and its own cropped front photo, so the dropdown is worth browsing.

A variation sells. eBay decrements it. Your spreadsheet does not know. Two more sell while you are at work, and now you are messaging apologies instead of shipping. The sync closes that: sold variations drop to zero, the cards flip to sold in your inventory, and a card that sold somewhere else cannot be sold again here.
After an order lands, it tells you exactly which cards to pull, and the box and row each one is in.
Reprice stale variations and add newly scanned cards to the running listing, keeping the sales history.
eBay's limit is enforced before publish, so the listing is never rejected with an error that names no card.

- How many cards can one You-Pick listing hold?
- eBay caps a listing at 250 variations. Past that, split by team, set or price band, which also makes each listing's title more searchable.
- Should my best cards go in the You-Pick?
- No. Cards worth roughly $5 or more deserve individual listings with their own searchable titles. The You-Pick is for the long tail: commons, minor stars, and base cards that would never justify a listing of their own.
- What happens when a variation sells?
- eBay decrements that variation's quantity and the other variations keep selling uninterrupted. The sale syncs back to your inventory, so the same card cannot be sold twice, and it appears on your pick list with its location.
- What is the catch with the format?
- Per-card search is weaker, because one title covers every variation. Variations also sell down unevenly, so some cards go in a day and others sit for months and need repricing. Keep the genuinely searchable cards as individual listings.
- Is this the same as an eBay multi-variation listing?
- Yes. A You-Pick is eBay's multi-variation feature applied to cards, where each card is a variation with its own price, quantity and photo.
